What it is
Agmatine is a compound made from the amino acid arginine that acts on several receptor systems and is thought to influence nitric oxide regulation. It appears in preworkouts marketed for "pumps" and focus, but human research has centered on neuropathic pain and safety, not exercise.
Benefits
There is no published human trial showing an ergogenic, pump, or performance benefit from agmatine sulfate. Doses used in human pain research run roughly 1.3-3.6 g/day, but these were not performance studies.
When to take it
No evidence-based pre-workout timing exists. Pain-study protocols split the daily dose into two servings.
Side effects
In human safety and pain studies, the main reported effects were mild gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea and diarrhea, mostly at the highest doses. Long-term and ergogenic safety data remain limited.
